Strauss Tips

Captain Andrew Strauss backed England as an outside bet to win the World Twenty20 next month following their 2-0 one-day series win over West Indies.

commanding display saw the hosts to a 58-run victory at Edgbaston. And Strauss, who will play no part in England's World Twenty20 campaign on home soil, believes his improving side can impress on home soil next month. He said: "We are a good outside bet. We are playing with confidence and in our own conditions have another edge." England racked up 328-7 from their 50 overs to record their sixth best total in one-day internationals, with Strauss (52), Ravi Bopara (49), Matt Prior and Owais Shah (75) all in excellent form. Any hopes of a West Indies renaissance evaporated when Shivnarine Chanderpaul was dismissed for 68 as James Anderson collected 3-58 in another fine England bowling display."We were excellent with the bat, especially the intensity running between the wickets," added Strauss. The way we bowled in Bristol and the way we batted here, we put them under pressure from ball one. We did not let up in any stage in the one-dayers or Tests. I'm delighted to win the series, it builds momentum for the summer." Man of the match Prior scored his highest one-day score batting at three, an innings which he hopes will cement his position in the side.
